Colloquium: Perspectives on science and the changing media landscape

A panel will give short presentations, followed by lengthy discussion.

The panelists are:

- Simon Donner, Assistant Professor of Climatology in UBC’s Department of Geography. Simon leads a program of teaching and research at the interface of climate science, marine science, ecology and public policy. He is actively involved in public outreach on climate change through a variety of initiatives including the Aldo Leopold Leadership Program.

- Candis Callison, Assistant Professor at UBC’s School of Journalism.  Candis received her PhD and MSc from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and previously worked as a journalist in Canada and the US.  Her research foci includes environment and science journalism, public engagement, media change and democracy.

- Nicola Jones, Science Journalist in Residence at UBC’s School of Journalism, Commissioning editor for the ‘comment’ section of Nature, and freelance reporter. Nicola has been a science journalist for more than 10 years in England and Canada, focusing on the earth sciences.
