Taylor Owen is a writer, researcher at teacher working at the intersection of academics, public policy and journalism. He writes widely on international affairs, conflict, politics and the changing nature of media.
He is a Banting Post Doctoral Fellow at the Liu Institute for Global Issues where his research looks how subnational and spatial data can inform our understanding of post and contemporary conflict. His doctorate is from the University of Oxford where he was Trudeau Scholar and thesis focused on defining, measuring and mapping the concept of human security.
He is the Senior Editor of opencanada.org, a site he developed with the Canada International Council, which seeks to be the online hub for international affairs in Canada, and serves as a host for a wide range of new media focused journalism on international issues. He is the Research Director for the Munk Debates.
He has been a lecturer at the Trudeau Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Toronto, Research Fellow at the Center for Global Governance at the LSE, Fellow in the Genocide Studies Program at Yale University, was an Action Canada Fellow, has an MA from the University of British Columbia, and has worked as a researcher at the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo, and the International Development Research Center.
