Grad wins health award

For the first time, an online-only news organization has won an NIHCM (National Institutute for Health Care Management) award.

imageShelley Wood (‘00), alumna of the UBC School of Journalism, and currently managing editor of theheart.org, won in the category of Print Journalism for her series of stories “The Myxo ring mix-up” about the Myxo ETlogix annuloplasty ring.

Shelley joined theheart.org as a medical journalist in 2000, after completing her Masters in Journalism degree at the University of British Columbia, specializing in health reporting.

She became the managing editor of heartwire in January 2009.

Former School of Journalism Director Donna Logan was not surprised by Shelley’s win: “Shelley was a member of the first graduating class and an award winner all the way through.”
