UBC J-school student Anupreet Sandhu Bhamra has won one of three prestigious national Broadcaster of the Future awards offered by Global Television.

Sandhu Bhamra, ‘09, who has reported for a number of news organizations in Canada and India across media platforms, received the $5,000 award, which is designed to encourage Canadian talent in the broadcast industry.

Sandhu Bhamra’s television experience includes anchor/reporter for Vancouver-based Channel M and co-production credit on a magazine-length news documentary for HDnet’s Dan Rather Reports. The documentary was created as part of a student-led project at the Graduate School of Journalism, run by Associate Professor Peter W. Klein.

Her most recent project involves a CBC-commissioned documentary on a team of medical students, who travelled to India to help a remote boarding school in the Himalayas set up a health centre.

Sandhu Bhamra’s work has also appeared in The Globe and Mail, the Vancouver Sun and two of India’s leading national newspapers, The Hindustan Times and The Indian Express.

She recently won the William Rea Fellowship in Television offered through the University of British Columbia.
